Our Trip to the Dentist

Friday November 5, 2010

The kids had their very first visit to the dentist on Friday.  We didn't really know what to expect.  I know Weston absolutely loves going to the doctor so I prepared him all week by letting him know that we were going to the doctor for your teeth - the dentist!  He would repeat it and get really excited.

The day arrived and we took them to the park on the way to hopefully wear them out so they were not bouncing off the walls.  It seemed to work pretty well.

I was very pleased with how well everything went.  They were playing Mulan which neither of them have seen before, so it had their undivided attention.  Natalie went first.  I knew she wasn't going to cooperate.  She hates having her teeth brushed.  We had to hold her down while they brushed her teeth really well.  She did not like it one bit.  But, the good news is that her teeth are perfect, with the exception of a little gingivitis on the top back gums.  But, that is no surprise with how hard she clenches down on her toothbrush when we try to brush.  So, we just have to work on that.
Weston did really well.  He was nervous but once they got started, he cooperated really well.  He even opened his mouth nice and wide and said "Aahhh."  His teeth were also perfect which came as a great shock.  No discoloration, no cavities, no gingivitis.  Perfect.  Oh, and the great news is that according to the hygienist, he has perfect spacing between all of his teeth so most likely will not experience crowding when his big teeth come in - so most likely no braces for him!  Yipee!  Natalie on the other hand is still not in the clear.  But, no surprise there.  She is our expensive child.  :)
While we waited for the doctor to come in, the kids played with the little stuffed dragons.  They thought they were fantastic.  Natalie even brushed the dragon's teeth.  She was having a blast.
The best part according to Weston?  The toys at the end.  He got a jet and Natalie got a duck.  They were both thrilled.
