Family Outing

We decided to mix things up for a change. We figured we spend enough time around the house so we wanted to do something a little different this weekend with the kids. Last week we had discovered a neat little area for the kids to play at and decided we wanted to give it a try sometime. Well, that sometime came sooner than we had planned.

After Roland came home from work, we ate a quick dinner and headed out for our adventure. In one of the local shopping centers, there is a little gated play area that includes a little toy town (several play houses), a train box car for the kids to go in, and a hedge maze shaped like Texas. We loved the fact that it was gated, so we could just let the kids run loose!

The kids absolutely loved it. Weston was super excited about the train, but it was a bit anti-climatic when he discovered there was nothing much in the box car. That's okay. He still enjoyed running up and down the stairs and shutting the train door on everyone. Natalie loved climbing the stairs too and stopped foot traffic on several occasions.
Weston and Natalie ran in and out of all of the houses having so much fun. There was a bank, a jail, a gas station, town hall, and a few other things. They thought it was just a blast. It was really cute to watch them play together. Weston had to make sure that Natalie was always in his sight and was having just as much fun as he was. He had to show her the proper way to do everything after all. Too cute!





The hedge was fun too. Weston enjoyed running through there and even found his way out. Natalie was not too thrilled and kept heading for the exit as soon as she could. I ended up just carrying her on my shoulders.

After all the fun was done, we walked across the parking lot to Cold Stone. Weston was super excited for ice cream. As we were leaving the play area we asked if he wanted ice cream and he replies, "ice cream! yes, okay!"

We walk inside and he goes nuts. "Ice cream, ice cream!" It had been a long time since he had ice cream, but apparently he didn't forget what it was. Roland and I each got an ice cream and headed outside with the kids to enjoy.

Natalie was so calm about it. She absolutely loved it but would just take her time dipping in her spoon and bringing it to her mouth. You could tell she was relishing in the moment. Weston was digging into Daddy's when he discovered that Mommy's was colorful! He quickly decided he wanted Mommy's too and headed on over for his fair share. So, it was all three of us dipping into Mommy's raspberry sorbet with blueberries which left Daddy all to himself with his boring vanilla and heath bar. I thought it was funny. Weston loved the sorbet. He couldn't get enough and certainly didn't like the idea of sharing.







It was a lot of fun sitting around with the family around ice cream bowls. We haven't ever had an "outing" like this so it was a lot of fun. The kids seemed to really enjoy it. I think they felt super special and I thought it was pretty neat. We will definitely have to do this again. We had a lot of fun. I love my family. They are the best!
